The record consists of a two-volume typescript history of the Disston family and firm compiled by Elizabeth Satterthwaite from information provided by the senior members of the family. The history was apparently produced in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the move to Tacony, but was not published.

Henry Disston & Sons, Inc. was a major manufacturer of saws and other woodworking tools and one of the largest industrial firms in Philadelphia. Henry Disston, the founder of the firm, was born in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, in 1819 and emigrated with his father to Philadelphia in 1833.
